Joseph and Mary (Brumby) King

Joseph King was born in Chevenby, Lincolnshire, England, on September 28, 1831. He married Mary Brumby, who was born in Scampton Cliff, Lincolnshire, England, on December 29, 1835. They were married May 16, 1853, at the Scampton Church by Rev Alton, Pastor; witnesses were James Brumby and Fannie Dorcaster.

Joseph died May 18, 1917, and Mary died February 12, 1921. They are buried at the cemetery in Sloan, Iowa. They were the parents of seven boys and three girls.

Thomas S was born February 16, 1854, supposedly in England; he died December 12, 1920. He married Ina J Murphy in 1888 and they had twelve children: Joseph, Sadie, Walter, George, Dan, Stella, Mary, Bernice, Alice, Eva, Ruth and Electa.

Willard was born April 16, 1856; he died July 14, 1899. Willard was born on the ocean, coming to America from England. He married Ida Bryan on August 12, 1891, and they had three children: Frances, Florence and Garrett.

One Eugenia was born June 22, 1859, and died February 21, 1921. She married J Renick Dobbs on April 9, 1890. They are both buried in the Sloan, Iowa, cemetery. They had one child, Eva Mae ‘Dolly’.

Ralph Richard was born August 16, 1860, and died September 20, 1862. He never married.

Myrt Joseph was born January 14, 1864, and died January 13, 1946. He was married on May 28, 1892, to Eva Durand. They are both buried in the Whiting, Iowa, cemetery. They were the parents of eight children: Ora, Fred, Cecil, Ona, Francis, Judson, Leota and Bonnie Faye.

Lillian Gladeous was born November 20, 1867, in Ashtabula, Ohio. She died December 26, 1943. She married Caleb Cushing on February 11, 1890. They had five children: Claude, Bernice, Bessie, Lillian and Lyle.

George Milton was born February 11, 1870. He died in August of 1948 and is buried at Forsythe, Montana. He was married to Margaret Heck; she is buried in Holly Springs, Iowa, cemetery. They had five children: Roy Cecil, Bessie, Lillian and David.

Mary Crystal was born February 2, 1873, in Michigan, and came to Sloan, Iowa, in a covered wagon with her folks. She died August 27, 1960. She married Ernest Clarkson Smith on January 14, 1897. They are both buried in the Sloan, Iowa, cemetery. They were the parents of five children: Merwyn, Fred, Roy, Gail and Dorothy.

Frederick John was born June 20, 1975, in Avoca, Shelby County, Iowa, and died on January 15, 1953. He was married in 1893 to Frances Evelyn Dobbs. They are both buried in the Whiting, Iowa, cemetery. They had two children, Lila and Lloyd.

Charles A was born March 20, 1879, at Sloan, Iowa, and died March 9, 1956. He married Frances Pitken in 1907, and they had four children: Glen, Arthur, Kenneth and Lucille. Charles married Josephine Boyce in 1920.
