Fred and Martha Myers/Meyers Mook

Fred Mook was the 3rd child born to John Mook and Eva Trometer on March 17, 1871 at Independence, Iowa. He came to the Nortwestern part of Iowa when he was about 18 years of age, first residing near Merrill, Iowa. He married Martha Myers-Meyers on October 24, 1893, at Merrill, Iowa. She was born January 5, 1871, at Quincy or Lincoln, Illinois. At the age of five, she moved with her parents, Martin Myers and Sarah Anna Johnson, to Iowa.

Fred and Martha Mook resided in Osceola And Clay Counties from 1895 to 1908 and then returned to Plymouth County, Iowa where they farmed at several locations. In 1921 they were farming in Liberty Township, Section 27 and 28. Martha died November 17, 1933, 13 miles west of Merrill, Iowa, at the age of sixty-two. The funeral was held at the Methodist Church at Merrill and she is buried in the City Cemetery there. Fred died March 18, 1949 at Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. He is buried beside his wife at Merrill. Fred and Martha were the parents of eight children: Frederick who died when an infant, David, Mary, Roy, Elmer, Lewis, Herman and Maggie. None of the children had middle names.

David Mook was born December 27, 1895 in Iowa. He died at the young age of 17 years on June 2, 1913 at Merrill, Iowa. His obituary states that he was a splendid young man, of clean habits, industrious and of sympathetic temperament. The funeral was held at the Merrill Lutheran Church and he is buried at the Merrill City Cemetery.

Mary Mook, whose nickname was ‘Itely’ was born January 23, 1897. She died of pneumonia at age 14, on June 3, 1911 at Merrill, Iowa. She is buried at the Merrill Cemetery.

Lewis Mook was the 4th child born to Fred and Martha Mook. He married Mabel Lena Harrison. They both died in Sioux City, Iowa. They had three children: Donald Lewis, Kenneth Eugene, and Phyllis Mae. The children are now living in Sioux City.

Herman Mook was born October 1, 1902. He was employed as a truck driver. He married Florence Neilson and she had three children: Kenneth, Lynn and Donald. At the time of their deaths they were residing at Clinton, Iowa.

Maggie Mook was born June 29, 1909 at Hinton, Iowa. She married Lloyd Gus Tornow on December 18, 1930 at Woodbine, Iowa. He was born June 14, 1910 at Neola, Iowa and died January 23, 1977 at Carroll, Iowa. Maggie and Lloyd ‘Bud’ Tornow had three children: Edward Lloyd born October 7, 1931 at Woodbine, Iowa. Merrill Dean was born November 13, 1935 at Woodbine, Iowa. Maggie now resides at Carroll, Iowa.
