Meister Family

Otto and Ruth Meister farmed for forty years around Moville. On January 1, 1970, they purchased the acreage at the east of Front Street in Pierson. A year later, they rebuilt the house, and they have lived there since then.

Otto, son of Adam and Minnie (Hopp) Meister of Kingsley, was born southwest of Kingsley on October 28, 1903. Ruth, daughter of George and Eva (Martin) Hughes, was born near Whiting, Monona County, Iowa, on October 19, 1908. Her family moved several times, and she attended various schools in Woodbury and Plymouth Counties, graduating form Hinton High School in 1927. Otto and Ruth were married at the Mayflower Congregational Church in Sioux City by the Reverend Joseph Steele, Emeritus, on July 12, 1928.

The Meisters had two daughters, Wilma and Darlene, and three sons, Verle, Lloyd, and Glenn.

Wilma was born in Kingsley, Iowa, March 19, 1929, and graduated from Moville High School in 1948. She married Frank Bollin of Kingsley on November19, 1950, and they live and farm at Anthon. They have two sons, Wayne and Brice. Wayne is employed at Purolator Courier in Sioux City and has a son, Andrew, and a daughter, Quanda. Brice farms at Anthon, and has two daughters, Kelly and Randi Lee.

Darlene was born May 26, 1932, south of Moville, and graduated form Moville High School in 1950. She married LeRoy Morey of Salix on June 1, 1951, and lived in Sioux City, until 1976. Then, they moved to Holland, Grundy County, Iowa. They have three sons, Thomas Michael, and Martin, who graduated from Sioux City schools, and Scott, who graduated at Grundy Center. Michael has two children, Mark & Nikki; Scott also has two children, Dennis and Nicole.

Verle was born at Moville on March 16, 1937, and graduated from Moville High School in 1955. He attended Wartburg College at Waverly, Iowa, for two years before he enlisted in the Army. He served in Korea for three years. Upon his discharge, he returned to Wartburg and graduated with a B.A. in 1965. On May 11, 1968, he married Connie Sturm of Terre Haute, Indiana. He served as personnel manager for Vindale Corporation at Dayton, Ohio, before moving to Cheyenne, Wyoming, where they operated the “Management Recruiters’ for Cheyenne. They have one son, John.

The second son, Lloyd, was born near Moville on October 16, 1939, and graduated form Moville High School in 1958. He attended Iowa State University at Ames for one year and then transferred to San Jose State California in California. He graduated from San Jose with a B.A. and M.A. in Business Administration. He was a Lieutenant in the Burglary Prevention Unit of the San Jose Police Department for seventeen years, and is now an investment planner for the Argus Company, of which he is a part owner. On June 17, 1961, he married Ethelynn Schenk of San Jose. They have tow daughters, Caroline and Sharon, who attend San Jose State College.

The youngest son, Glenn, was born December 16, 1941, at Moville. He graduated form Moville High School in 1960 and married Betty Fendrick of Thurston, Nebraska, on July 31, 1965, at Thurston. They farm south of Pierson and have one son, Greg Elliott.

Otto Meister died September 16, 1981, and was buried at Arlington Cemetery in Moville. Ruth lives at her home at 826 Front Street, Pierson, Iowa.
