John Wayne Fenton was born August 23, 1939, Newell, South Dakota, and lived in Nisland, South Daktoa. His parents were Jacob and Ruth (Scotney) Fenton. John worked on his father’s farm and attended Langdon Rural Grade School and Nisland Public High School. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1961 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commercial Art. He came to Sioux City, Iowa, in June 1961, as a Staff Artist for Gordon, Robinson and Associates.

Audrey LaVonne Acton was born May 29, 1941, in Lyons, Nebraska. Her parents were Elmer and Goldie (Brown) Acton. Audrey attended Lyons Public Grace School and High School. She attended two years of Wayne State Teacher College and came to Sioux City in the middle of 1961, attending Edwards Business Institute that summer. She was then employed by Security National Bank and worked there for about seven years.

John and Audrey met in the spring of 1962. On March 2nd, 1963, they were married at the First Presbyterian Church (of Sioux City) by the Rev. Dr. LuVerne Clark. John and Audrey’s first residence was in an apartment building at 1610 Pierce in Sioux City. Three years later, they moved to 1902 Isabella. In the fall of 1968, they moved to 2530 South Cecelia.

On June 19, 1969, John and udrey had a son whom they named Scotney John Fenton. He was baptized on August 24, 1969, in the same gown that his grandfather, Elmer Acton, was baptized in. Scotney was baptized at Morningside Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Myron Brower.

On May 15, 1972, John Andrey had a daughter whom they named Lorille LaVonne Fenton. She was baptized on October 22, 1972, at Morningside Presbyterian Church also by the Rev. Myron Brower.

Both children attended Washington Elementary School; Scotney also attended East Junior High School and East High School.

In September, 1975, the Fenton family moved to their current residence, 3815 6th Avenue.

The family has a tradition of passing, on through generations, a book, written by John Fenton, who was the father of Jacob Fenton. If has been passed from the youngest son to the youngest son, currently in the possession of J. Wayne Fenton.

The Fentons are active church members at Morningside Presbyterian Church. Audrey works there as the church printer and financial secretary. Wayne (John Fenton) is vice president of marketing at the Gerking Company.
