History of Woodbury County, Iowa 1984

Britten Galland
By Mrs Miles Galland

Britten Galland, 1865-1933, came to the Salix area from Ottumwa, Iowa, when a young man.

He bought a farm next to Brown’s Lake. He married Cora Burdick, 1869-1945, and they were the parents of twelve. Two sons lost their lives in World War I.

Mr Galland farmed and also started a park which he sold in 1914. Men from Sioux City used to come down to Salix, on the train on Friday night, and were met by horse and buggy and taken to the park where they would stay in a bunk house until Sunday afternoon when they were taken back to Salix to catch the train back to Sioux City. They enjopyed their hunting and fishing.

A son, Miles, took over the farming, but both parents stayed on the farm until they passed on.
