John A Haafke

John A Haafke was born November 25, 1884, to the Edward Haafkes. John was the eight surviving child and lived to be eighty-six years old. He, too, attended grade school at Elliot Creek School. He was received as a member of the Elliot Creek Presbyterian Church on March 20, 1898. He served as an elder for many years. He was also a member of the Bronson Band in the early 1900’s.

John was also a member of Morningside Lodge AF&AM; Sunrise Chapter 141; Royal Arch Masons; Columbian Comandry 18; Knights Templar; Abu Bekr Shrine Temple; and Abu Bekr White Horse Patrol. He enjoyed fishing as a hobby.

John married Elsie Bell on March 5, 1946, and she died on May 9, 1949. He married Ruth Anderson in 1950, and she is still living in California.

He loved the farm and worked hard. He even worked shortly before his death. John lived on the home place all his life. He was a quiet person, but also had a sense of humor. He died on May 29, 1971, of a cerebral hemorrhage.
