Ruth Henrietta Haafke was born on Janaury 24, 1882, on the home place of Edward Haafke near Bronson. She was the seventh living child of this pioneer family. She attended Elliot Creek Grade School and later enrolled at Morningside College. She was a county school teacher for several years, and later taught piano lessons in her home. Ruth also taught piano lessons in her home. Ruth also taught in a sod school house in South Daktoa for a number of years. Ruth loved music and would often attend musicals in Sioux City.

Ruth never married, and would often take her nieces and nephews to school functions, shows, or the Woodbury County Fair. She was received as membr of the Bronson Presbyterian Church on March 20, 1898. She was a member of the Bronson Ladies Aid.

Ruth lived her entire life on the farm with her parents, Edward and Henrietta. She suffered from heart trouble and died on May 31, 1945, of pulmonary embolism-rheumatic heart disease.
