Albert and Mary (Bahmer) Bell

Albert Norris Bell was born December 25, 1873, in Davis County, Iowa. He came with his parents to Moville in 1887. They were farmers.

He married Mary Eva Bahmer, February 8, 1899, at the home of his parents. A son, Lester, was born in 1900, and a daughter in 1902.

Leaving Iowa in 1903, Albert and Mary homesteaded in Edmonds County, South Dakota. Three girls were born to them in South Dakota. Lola in 1904; Alpha in 1906; and Violet in 1919. Mr and Mrs Bell are buried at Leola, South Dakota.

The following is from a newspaper clipping dated February 8, 1899:

‘Mr. A N Bell and Miss Mary Bahmer were united in marriage on Wednesday at high noon at the home of the groom’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. W G Bell, Sr. Rev R E Graves performing the marriage rites in the presence of nearly forty friends and relatives.

‘The bride was becomingly attired in a dress of pale blue silk trimmed in white satin ribbon and lace, and was attended by Mrs. Ada Gothier, who wore a gown of pale blue silk, and Miss Lily Livermore, who wore a corn colored sash. Wm Gothier and Geo Bell were the groom’s attendants. At the close of the ceremony the bridal couple received congratulations and then together with their friends sat down to an elaborate wedding dinner, after which Geo Oertel, on behalf of the guests, presented the happy couple with a large number of pretty and useful gifts, a list of which will be found below.

‘Mr. and Mrs .Bell will begin housekeeping about the 15th inst. On a farm nine miles south of Moville.

‘Lamp, Mr. and Mrs .W G Bell, Sr; Silver knives and forks, W G Bell, Jr.; Sauce dish, Fred Wright; Jelly and sauce dish, Rosa Jenner; Coffee pot, Henry Stephenson; Carving Set, Mr. and Mrs. Jas Graham; Teaspoons, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. McElrath; sugar bowl, cream pitcher, spoon-holder and butter spoons, Mr. and Mrs. Stephenson; Table spoons, G and H Bell; Plate, Mr. and Mrs. Merrick; Lamp, Ralph Bell; Cake stand, George Oertel and Hattie Wright; Celery dish, Bessie Wright; Rocking chair and stand, Anna Montgomery, Edith Jones, Maggie Schieuer, Lilly Livermore, Anna Hammon, Lena Sieda; Water set, Mrs. Ida Bell; Butter knife, Elmer Paris; Butter knife, Adah Gothier; Sugar Spoon, Edith Hogue, Table cloth and towel, Mrs. W G Bell, Sr; Table cloth, Alice Phillips.’
