Albert Leroy ‘Roy’ Brown

Albert Leroy ‘Roy’ Brown, son of Ernest and Lizzie Jane Brown, was born August 21, 1898, at Salix, Iowa, deceased February, 1982. He married Hettie Lucille Gay, born December 17, 1903, deceased April, 1957, on September 4, 1924. They farmed near Salix until 1935. They moved to Algona, Iowa, where Roy served as Kossuth County Extension director form 1935 to 1952. The couple returned to Salix in 1952 when Mr. Brown resumed farming at the Brown’s Lake farm.

Roy and Lucille had three sons: Douglas Gay, Kenneth Dudley and Gordon Elliot.

Douglas Gay Brown, born July 30, 1925, married Mary Louise Johnson, born August 29, 1929, at St Peter, Minnesota, on February 4, 1950, at St Peter, Minnesota. The couple lives in rural Sergeant Bluff.

Douglas and Mary Lou have five children. Kristine Marie Brown, born May 11, 1951, at Iowa City, is married to James Schmidt of Cedar Falls, Iowa. They have two children: Benjamin and Stephen. Juliana Sue Brown, born June 6, 1952, at Quincy, Illinois, is married to Robert Cerven, Jr. of Akeley, Minnesota. They have three children: Kimberly, Travis and Jenifer. Johanna Lucille Brown, born February 25, 1960, now lives in Hibbing, Minnesota. Loren Russell DeCora Brown, born June 21, 1963, at Iowa City, is an adopted son who now lives in Sioux City. Clinton Raymond Brown, born February 28, 1966, at Rosebud, South Dakota, is an adopted son living at home.

Kenneth Dudley Brown, born September 4, 1927, at Salix, moved to Portland, Oregon, deceased May, 1967. Kenneth had three children: Clay, Phil and Leslie. All of the children now reside in Los Gatos, California.

Gordon Elliot Brown, born January 3, 1933, married Roberta Ruth Slocum, born October 18, 1935, at Atlantic, Iowa, on June 10, 1956, at Lewis, Iowa. The couple now lives in rural Sloan, Iowa.

Gordon and Roberta have four children: Marcia Linn Brown, born October 17, 1959, is married to Marvin Monroe. The couple lives in Moville, Iowa. Kristin Lea Brown, born December 31, 1960, is married Michael Miltenberger, of rural Sloan, Iowa. Kristin has a son, Joshua Michael, born January 29, 1981. Wade Kendal Brown, born April 3, 1963, is living at home. Sherri Leann, born June 20, 1966, is living at home.
