Milton (Don) William and Nanette (Nan) Kay Hilliker Cain
By Nan CainMilton William Cain, nicknamed Don by his parents, was born February 20, 1956, in Sioux City, Iowa, at the Methodist Hosptial. He weighed nine pounds and 1 ounce. He as brown hair and had big ble eyes when he was born, but when he was five or six years old they changed to a hazel green color. Don was named Milton William after his father and grandfaterh. His parents are: Milton John Cain and Virginia Ann (Kucera) Cain, both born in Sioux City. His grandparents were: Amiel Ben Cain and Beulah Vivian (Austin) Cain; and Williah Henry Kucera and Lucretia May (Howard) Kucera.
Don has a younger brother, Terrance Lee, who goes by Terry, and a younger sister, Lucretia Ann (Cain) Baumgardner.
Don was baptized May 12, 1963, Mother’s Day, at Trimble Methodist Church in South Sioux City. He attends Sunday School and church service there for several years. Don also lit candles there with his younger brother, Terry.
Don attended Lowell grade school, where he belonged to the cub scouts. He was also a patrol boy.
He went to Leeds High School for grades 7 through 10. In seventh and eighth grade he took accordian lessions. In ninth grade he became involved in football and track in which he won ribbons and letters. He attended North High School for grades 11 and 12 and was involved in football. He also belonged to the Youth Baseball Association. He carried a .537 battling average and was selected to the Youth All-Star team both years. Don graduated in 1974 from North High.
In the fall of 1974, Don enlisted in the Army. He was stationed at Ford Ord in California for basics. After basics he was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas for the remaining 2 ½ years. While ther he was a Physical Activity Specialist.
Returning to Sioux City after the Army, Don was employed at the Red Onion Drive Inn for three years as a cook. He then began working at the Cameo Theatre as the assistant manager.
In 1979, while working at the Cameo Theater, he met Nanette ‘Nan’ Kay (Hilliker), who was also employed there.
Nan was born May 4, 1962, at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City. She weighed six pounds and fifteen ounces and was twenty inches long. Her parents are Arvid Earl and Haroldine ‘Dee’ Rae (Peck) Hilliker. Her grandparents are Mona (Martin) and Waldo Irving Hilliker and Velda B (Lake) and Harold Glen Peck.
Nan attended Sunday School at Crescent Park Methodist Church with her sister, Sheryl Ann (Hilliker) Hill.
She attended Crescent Park Elementary School and was active in Girl Scouts and choir. In junior high she attended Herbert Hoover Junior High School and was active in choir, intramural basketball and volleyball. In the ninth grade she was active in track. In 1980, she graduated from West High School where she was active in choir and in the eleventh grade was on the yearbook staff. During her senior year she worked at Cameo Theater and after graduation continued working there and also began working at Lloyd and Myers Plaza Pharmacy.
On February 14, 1981, Don and Nan were married at the Crescent Park Methodist Church in Sioux City.
Don and Nan like to do many things together such as bowling, fishing, and camping. Don also likes to work with cars. Nan likes cats, dogs, and horses; she does latch hook.
On January 29, 1982, their son, Nicholas Paul, was born at St Lukes Hospital in Sioux City. He weight eight pounds and was 20 ½ inches long. He has blondish-brown hair and blue eyes.
They are currently residing and working in Sioux City.
