Lewis/Louis/Lars Nelson

Trying to find parents & siblings of my paternal grandfather Lars/Lewis/Louis Nelson who married Hannan/Honora Drew between 1870 & 1880 and raised a family in Decorah.

He enlisted in the Civil War in 1861 under the name Lewis Olson because (as the story goes) his father wouldn't give permission as he (Lars) was 15 yrs old. He used this name only during his military service. Olson was possibly married to Lar's sister.

We have no idea of the family name and would appreciate any lead we might follow to solve this mystery.
