Funeral services for Arnold H. Hexom, age 76, of Waverly, Iowa were held Sunday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Church in Waverly, Iowa with Pastor Glen T. Wheeler officiating. Services were also held Monday, May 7 at 1:00 p.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa with Pastor Landis Olson officiating. Burial, with graveside military rites, was in East Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery, rural Decorah, Iowa. Kaiser - Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

Arnold H. Hexom, son of Carl and Emma (Johnson) Hexom, was born May 7, 1913 on a farm in Allamakee County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa. After graduating from the eighth grade in a rural school near his home, he helped his family farm and also became an auctioneer. At the age of 13, he bought a black colt which started him in the horse business.

On December 27, 1941 he married Lorine L. Ludeking. From 1942 to 1945, he was in the Army, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of War. After being discharged, he lived in Waukon, Iowa for a short time. In 1946, they moved to Waverly, Iowa where he worked for the T.H. Bany Implement Company. He later formed a partnerships with Ted Bany, Wilbert Oberheu, and Ed Engelbrecht. They they started the Waverly Sales Barn in 1947. He later bought out his partners and owned and operated the sales barn until he sold it in 1972. Hexom founded the world renown Waverly Draft Horse Sale in March of 1948, which continues now. He was a member and past director of Percheon Horse Association of America, member of the Belgian Horse Association of America, member and past president of Iowa Auctioneering Association, and Clydesdale Horse Association of the United States. He was one of six in the United States to be presented with a lifetime membership. He had been an active participant in the Iowa State Fair Association, and his portrait hangs in the Draft Horse Hall of Fame in the Iowa State Fair Horse Barn in Des Moines, Iowa. After he sold the Waverly Sales Barn he started the Hexom-Sweeney Sales Company, which he was involved in until his death.

He was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church, B.P.O.E., Sons of Norway, VFW, American Legion and Amvets. He was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly and its church council.

His wife Lorine died May 9, 1980. On December 11, 1980 he married Myrtle (Johnson) Westby. He lovingly called her "Miss Myrtle". They spent the last nine winters in Scottsdale, Arizona and were on their way back to Iowa when he suffered a heart attack near Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 25, 1990. Arnold died Thursday, May 3, 1990 at Kaseman Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition to his first wife, Lorine, he was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, George Hexom and Carlton Hexom, and a sister, Florence Folstad.

Arnold is survived by his wife, Myrtle and 3 sisters, Esther Hill of Decorah, Iowa, Mabel (Merle) Jensen of Bennet, Nebraska, and Helen (Erwin) Basler of Northbrook, Illinois.
