Bayer, age 75, of Gravette, Arkansas were held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 5 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa with Father Jack Paisley officiating. Burial was in LeRoy Memorial Cemetery in LeRoy, Minnesota with French and Balik Funeral Home of Decorah, Iowa in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Peter Baltes, Charles Baltes, Wayne Howe, James Howe, Gary Howe, and Donald Howe.
Evelyn, daughter of Wilbur and Mabel (Cheney) Howe, was born July 17, 1914 in Chester, Minnesota. She graduated from the Decorah High School and received her medical technician training in St. Louis, Missouri. She worked for Dr. Howland in Decorah, Iowa before moving to Ottawa, Illinois where she also worked as a medical technician. In 1958 she married Paul Bayer in Ottawa. He died in 1976. She lived in Green Forrest, Arkansas for many years before moving to Gravette. She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Bella Vista, Arkansas where she was active in the Rosary Society, church council and Women's League. She was also on the President's Council on Aging, a member of AARP, and a volunteer for Gravette Hospital.
Evelyn died Thursday, February 1, 1990 at St. John's Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. She is survived by 2 brothers, Charles Howe and Kenneth Howe, both of Waukon, Iowa; a sister, Marjorie Baltes of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and 14 nieces and nephews.
