Funeral Held Here Today For Former Castalia Lady
Funeral services were held here this morning at the Schutte Funeral Home for Mrs. Esther Fischer Updegraff, 35, who passed away in Janesville, Wis., last Friday, July 27, 1945. The Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig officiated at the service. Interment was in Postville cemetery. A funeral service was also held in Janesville yesterday before the remains were shipped to Postville.
As Esther Fischer she was born in Fayette county November 26, 1909, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Fischer. She spent the first seven years of her life in Fayette county and then went to Castalia with her parents. Her parents died when she was 13 years old and she then went to Milwaukee, Wis., to make her home with her brother Fred.
Returning to Castalia, she lived here until 1939 when she went to Janesville, which has since been her home.
Mrs. Updegraff is survived by three children, Jerald Dean, Richard, and Barbara Louise; three sisters: Mrs. Harley Fuller of Janesville; Mrs. George Lundt of Clarksville, Iowa; Mrs. Wm. Schave of Castalia and five brothers: William, Emil and Fred Fischer, all of Castalia; Henry Fischer of Postville, and Martin Fischer, serving in the Navy.
Her parents, William Henry and Marie Louisa (Schroeder) Fischer; two brothers, Edwin (1894-1913) and Otto (stillborn), and one sister (not named, 1911-1912) preceded her in death.
