Joseph R. Sams, pastor of the Friends church at Hesper, died Saturday at a hospital at Rochester, Minn., immediately after sustaining a surgical operation, a blood clot being the immediate cause of his demise. He had been Pastor at Hesper about four years, succeeding a brother, Lawrence, in that capacity; and was capable and very well liked in the entire county.

He was 37 years and seven months old, and leaves the wife and a family of five children, the oldest thirteen years of age, to mourn their loss. He had been at Rochester nearly three months, sustaining another operation there some weeks ago.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. Mendenhall, yearly meeting superintendent of the Friends church, were held at Hesper Monday morning, and on Tuesday the body was taken to Mabel, Minn., for shipment to his former home at Beloit, Ohio, for burial, accompanied by his wife and children, who will remain at Beloit to make their home, aIso his brother Lawrence now a pastor at another charge in Iowa.

We are promised facts for a more complete obituary in a future issue.

Church membership reocrds say Joseph Sams was born November 3, 1892 at Salem, Ohio. He died while he was a minister at the Hesper Friends Church while in Rochester, Minnesota June 28, 1930. Date and newspaper unknown. From the colection of Rebecca Fawcett White.
