Body of Mrs. Alvin Hawks Recovered By Son; Had Been in Poor Health
Mrs. Alvin Hawks, (the fomer Mary Lyon) more than 60 years old, met death at her home about two miles southwest of Hesper, Tuesday morning by drowning in a cistern. She had been despondent over poor health. She went out of the farm house while the family was at breakfast. After the meal her son, Loren, went out into the yard and noticed that the cover was off the cistern. Upon investigation he found the body floating in it and recovered it. Mrs. Hawks is survived by her husband, a widely-known farmer near Hesper; two daughters, Mrs. Granville Street (Avis), who lives nearby, and Carol, who lives at home; and one son, Loren, who also lives at home.
Funeral rites will be conducted today (Friday) from the Friend's Church in Hesper.
Date and newspaper unknown. From the collection of Rebecca Fawcett White. (Carol and Loren never married.)
