Sheryl K. Peterson, 78, of Waukon, IA, died Friday, March 14, 2025, at Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 5th, at 10:30 AM at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon with Pastor Karla Johnson officiating. Friends may greet the family from 9:30 AM until the time of services Saturday, April 5th, at the church. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is handling arrangements.

Sheryl Kay Peterson was born November 5, 1946, in Decorah, IA, the eldest child of Alfred Conrad and Lorna Jean (Winke) Kruger. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem United Church of Christ in rural Waukon, IA, where she remained a lifelong member. Sheryl attended Ludlow country schools before graduating from Waukon High School. On a fateful day, Sheryl went on a blind date with Roger Clair Peterson. A mutual friend described Sheryl as “sharp” and Roger didn’t need much more convincing than that. They married on June 26, 1965, at Salem UCC. They resided in Waukon until building their own house in Ludlow Township in 2005.

Sheryl loved her family first and foremost. She was always ready to care for them when they needed someone. She was the family barber and also babysat for all her grandchildren while they were young. Sheryl was Roger’s secretary for many years at Peterson Electric; she took care of the books, answered the phone, and did whatever Roger needed when he was out on a job. They took many family trips, including seeing King Tut’s tomb in Chicago, going on a Mississippi River cruise, and journeys to Hawaii, Arizona, Washington State, Texas, the East Coast (during a snowstorm), and Mexico. They spent a lot of time boating on the Mississippi too.

Music was a very important part of her life. She loved playing piano and would occasionally play at Salem; though she never sang publicly, Sheryl had a wonderful voice and would sing around house. Sheryl loved dancing as well, hitting all the major dance halls in the area with either Roger or other family members. She enjoyed playing euchre, and had an affinity for lighthouses and the color yellow.

Sheryl is survived by her husband Roger of Waukon; her two daughters: Laura (Gary) Iseli of Waukon and Wendy (Robert) Torson of Lansing, IA; seven grandchildren: Justin, Daniel, Emily, and Hannah Iseli and Madison, Cole, and Ethan Torson; one great-grandson Neil Simmons; siblings: Marcia (Gary) Gustafson of Slater, IA, Janine DuCharme of McGregor, IA, Fred (Lori) Kruger of Santa Maria, CA, and Randy (Teri) Kruger of Waukon; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred Kruger and Lorna Kruger Ashbacher; stepfather Harold Ashbacher; and brother-in-law Glen DuCharme.

Her grandchildren and great-grandson will serve as honorary bearers.
