OBITUARY.
Mary Jane Rice was born in Canada East, in the Province of Quebec, April 4th, 1837, and died at her home in Bluffton township, March 21, 1914. In June, 1858, she moved to Burr Oak, Iowa, with her parents, and in the fall of 1872 was married to Joseph Stewart at Sandy Hill, New York, where they resided for two years, when they moved to her present home in Bluffton township. She is survived by four brothers, James and Thomas Rice of Canton, Minn., David and Samuel Rice of Burr Oak, Iowa, her husband having died Dec. 9 1888. Since then she has lived alone on her farm in Bluffton township. The funeral was held in the Methodist church at Burr Oak Monday afternoon, March 23, Rev. O. E. Hatfield officiating. Mrs. Mary Jane Stewart, who has been living alone for the past twenty-five years, was found dead on her kitchen floor early last Saturday morning by one of the neighbors. The funeral services were held at the Burr Oak M. E. church Monday afternoon of this week and her remains were laid to rest in the Burr Oak cemetery by the side of her husband, who passed away twenty-five years ago.
