OBITUARY.
On Saturday last at the family home on River street, John Sorenson passed away after a week’s illness from Bright’s disease and pneumonia. Mr. Sorenson was born April 16, 1837, in Christianasand, Norway, and came to America in 1858, locating in Chicago. Previous to coming to this country he had been a sailor and had graduated from the steersman’s school. For a number of years after coming here he was a sailor on the great lakes. In 1864 he was married to Anna Aamonson and two years later they removed to Decorah, where the family home has since been maintained. Five children were born to them. They are Christina, Albert, Otto, and Fred, of Decorah, and Rev. Andrew Sorenson of Faribault, Minn. The deceased was a member of the First Lutheran church and as long as health permitted was a regular attendant upon all its services. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the home, Rev. J. B. Torrison officiating. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. Warren Hurlbut and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Grundeland of Calmar.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in 1836 which does not agree with the above. He died Feb. 14, 1914 and is buried in Decorah Lutheran Cemetery. It also shows his wife’s maiden name spelled Amundson.
