On Wednesday, at 3:30 p. m., occurred the death of Mr. J. P. LaValley, residing near Bonair. While Mr. LaValley has been in poor health for the past two or three months, he has been able to be about and was out in the barn at work when he was taken suddenly ill and passed away before he was carried to the house. Funeral services were held this morning at 8:00 o’clock at the home, Rev. Ferree of Bonair officiating. The remains were taken to Burr Oak for burial.

OBITUARY
LAVALLEY.
On March 7, 1917, Mr. J. P. LaValley, one of the pioneers of this section of the state, passed to the Great Beyond at the age of 73 years. He was born at Champlain, New York, March 25, 1843. Shortly after his marriage to Sophia Hubert in May, 1856 he came west with his young wife and settled ta Burr Oak, Ia., Winneshiek Co. After residing there for 21 years he moved his family to Bluffton where he lived for seven years. Desiring to better his condition he moved to Cresco in 1893 where another seven years was spent. Since 1900 he has lived near Bonair. Mr. LaValley had not been well all the winter, but was feeling much much better just prior to his death. His wife preceded him in death by ten weeks. Funeral services were held from the house on Friday morning, March 9th, 1917, at 8:30. Interment took place in the beautiful cemetery at Burr Oak. He is survived by six children, Mrs. Sharpe of Cresco, Mrs. Benedict of Ida Grove, Mrs. Edmunds of Bonair, Henry of St. Louis, Mo, John of Cresco and Kelsey of Minneapolis.
