OBITUARY
LIGHT.
On Thursday afternoon, March 8th, 1917, Brother John Light slipped from his earthly moorings and sailed into the Heavenly harbor and was welcomed by his Savior whom he had served these many years.
He was born in Tioga County, Penn., on November 19, 1825, where he lived until he was 13 years of age when he came west to Cook County with his parents in 1838. Here he grew to manhood and in 1853, February 9th, was united in marriage to Miss Phoebe Miller at Barrington Center, Cook Co., Ill. To this union there was born seven children, two of whom died in infancy. The others are Mrs. Sarah Bateman, who preceded her father to the Heavenly world 1909, George of New Plymouth, Idaho, John of Fresco, Cal., and Frances and Lula of Cresco.
In 1866 Mr. and Mrs. Light came father west to Iowa where they lived for some years upon a farm near Cresco, and about forty eyars ago moved to Cresco where they have since lived. In 1854 in Illinois they were both converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church of which they have been faithful members all these years. For a year past Mr. Light has been failing rapidly and for the last few months seemed likely to slip away any time and he said to his pastor that he would be glad to go and be at rest. He has found the rest of the people of God. There remain to mourn his loss beside the children mentioned, the ever faithful and devoted wife, one sister, Mrs. Otis Haven of Charles City, a number of nieces and nephews, twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren, besides other relatives and a host of friends. The funeral was held from the Methodist Church in charge of Rev. Will Kirwin and interment was made at Oak Lawn cemetery.
