Jeffrey “Jeff” Roney, age 64, of Waukon, IA (formerly of Decorah) passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at his home in Waukon.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at St. Benedict Catholic Church 307 West Main Street, Decorah, IA with Rev. Donald Hertges presiding.

Visitation will be Monday, April 1, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Helms Funeral Home, 306 East Water St., Decorah, IA, and also after 10:00 a.m., at the church Tuesday morning.

Jeff was born June 7th, 1959, in Decorah, Iowa, the 4th of 7 siblings of Robert and Joanne (Kimber) Roney. He attended Decorah public schools. In High School he met Doreen Frana at the Winneshiek County Fair. A year later they married On August 5th, 1978, at St Benedict Catholic Church by Father Ed Lechtenberg. The couple resided in Decorah where they built their first family house and had 4 children, Christopher “Chris”, Sarah, Joshua “Josh” and finally ending with a perfect child Stephanie (keep the opinions to yourself per Stephs request). The family moved to the “funny farm” outside of Decorah in 1997. Jeff was always working on his house, yard, garden and bringing home new collections and animals. Doreen always “loved” these surprises. In 2014 Jeff and Doreen adopted their nephews, Robert, Skylar, and Casey Roney. Jeff loved to travel, always taking road trips with his wife, kids, nieces, and nephews, especially visiting family in South Dakota, South Carolina, and Colorado.

Jeff became a grandpa to many grandchildren and loved spoiling them rotten! He made countless memories with his children and grandchildren. He loved taking the grandkids or anyone who wanted to go fishing on the pontoon and camping while always playing pranks and jokes on people. He loved cheering on his sons Chris and Josh at the dirt track races, his grandkids at their sporting events, the 49ers and his favorite Nascar racer, Jeff Gordon. He worked at the Creamery, Frana Beer Distributing, Finholt Construction, Schroeder & Leverington, Dave Kelly Builders, and retired from Winneshiek Medical Center at the age of 62. Jeff could never sit still. He was always looking to make extra money to pay for his bargain deals, he was always swinging a hammer on moonlight projects with his buddies and two sons, with a Busch light in hand of course.

Shortly after retiring Jeff was diagnosed with cancer. He never let that slow him down and lived the remaining years of his life spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends who he loved just as much as his family. He lost his long battle to cancer on March 27th, 2024, at home while surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Doreen of Waukon. Six children: Christopher (Dallas) Roney of Frankville, IA, Sarah Lindell (Tim Heins) of Fredericksburg, IA, Joshua (Ashley) Roney of Frankville, IA, Stephanie Roney (Dan Holzer) of Protivin, IA, Skylar Roney of Fort Campbell, KY, Casey Roney of Fort Drum, NY.
