Erick Ness Dead.
Word came to Decorah yesterday morning that Erick Ness, one of the well known and prosperous farmers of Washington Prairie, had passed away the night before. Mr. Ness has been ill for some time, the cause of death being anaemia. He was well known to the farmers throughout the county as a former representative of Henry Reeves on the Decorah market. He is survived by his wife and several children who have the sympathy of many friends in their affliction.

Eric Ness died at his home in Frankville township Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 9:30 a. m., and was buried Saturday Aug. 23, at Glenwood church, Rev. S. A. Scarvie delivering the funeral sermon, speaking in both Norwegian and English. This was the largest funeral ever witnessed in Glenwood, which showed that the deceased had a host of friends and that he was known in a wide territory, especially in this and Allamakee counties, as he has been traveling over the roads buying cattle and hogs for several years. Mr. Ness always had a cheerful disposition although his health has not been of the best for the last 11 years. Since last Christmas he has failed rapidly and three weeks ago he was taken down on the sick bed from which he did not arise. All medical aid seemed of no avail. He leaves to mourn his early departure a wife and two daughters, Anna and Gladys, his aged father, brothers Henry of Decorah and Melvin of Mason City, and a sister, Mrs. John Moe of Ossian, besides many other relatives, and a large circle of friends whose sympathy goes out to the nearest afflicted ones. Mr. Ness lacked just eleven days of being 43 years old.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows the name spelled Erik. He was born Sept. 1, 1871 and died Aug. 20, 1913. He is buried in Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery.
