With the passing of Olaus L. Nelson on Saturday morning, June 10, 1939, the "Angel of Death", has again taken to the heavenly home a most devoted, loving and kind husband, and father. His death came as a shock to the community, although he had been in failing health for some time.
Olaus L. Nelson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Nelson and was born March 30, 1964 in Hanover township, Allamakee county, Iowa. He was baptized May 1, 1864 and confirmed May 23, 1880 at the Big Canoe church of which he was a very loyal member.
He received his education in the rural schools of Allamakee county and also completed a course in business at the Breckenridge Institute at Decorah. After that he clerked for a number of years at the clothing store of Ephriam and also Beeman of Waukon.
In 1909 he left for Vienna, S. D. where he went into the clothing business for himself, until the fall of 1909, when he sold his business and moved to his farm in Hanover township, where he resided until his death.
He was married to Mrs. Stena Forde on Dec. 29, 1912, who preceded him in death May 1, 1916. On June 17, 1918, he was married to Miss Anna Osmundson, who lives to mourn his passing. He is also survived by four adopted children: - Anna (Mrs. A. C. Naley), Adrian, Minn.; Eva (Mrs. Ed. Kosbau), Waukon, Iowa; Edgar Nelson, Decorah, Iowa; and Irene (Mrs. Lynas Abel), Monona, Iowa; also seven grandchildren, one brother, Sever and a sister, Clara (Mrs. Carl) Berg) of Decorah, and many nieces and nephews. He was 75 years old at the time of his death and o June 13 his mortal remains were laid to rest in the Big Canoe cemetery to await the call of his Master.
