THE SILENT REAPER.
Four Old Residents of Winneshiek Called to Their Reward The Past Week.

On Saturday last at her home in Bluffton, Mrs. Luke O’Brien passed away after an illness of a couple of months. Her maiden name was Ellen McConnell. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terrence McConnell and was born in McHenry Co., Ill., in August, 1851. She came with her parents to Winneshiek county in the early days and they settled in Bluffton where she was married in 1865 to Luke O’Brien. To this union thirteen children were born: Nellie and William of Chicago, Mrs. Mike Courtney, Mary, Bessie, Alice, Pat, Andrew and Terry living at Bluffton, and Mrs. John Ryan of Canton. Three who have passed on before the mother are Mrs. Dick Madden, Jimmie and baby Luke. The funeral was held at the Bluffton church, Rev. Fathers Hawe, Mullan and Gossman officiating, and interment was made in the Bluffton cemetery. A large number of friends were present to extend their sympathy to the bereaved family. Beside her husband and children, a sister, Mrs. Brady of Minneapolis, and two brothers, Pat McConnell of Woodstock, Ill., and William McConnell of Bluffton were present.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she was born Aug. 1, 1851 and died July 26, 1913. She is buried in St. Bridget Cemetery. It also shows that they were married in 1867 instead of what is stated above.
