Furman E. Conover was born June 20, 1830, in Lewis county, N. Y., and died June 18, 1913, at his home on south Washington street in this city, lacking but two days of completing his eighty-third year. Mr. Conover was a son of E. E. and Katherine Murphy Conover. At that time he retired and came to Decorah, where his remaining years have been spent. He was united in marriage in 1856 to Mary L. Bigelow, who, with their only children—Dr. F. W. Conover, of Decorah Dr. J. F. Conover of Calmar—survive He is also survived by a brother and sister residing in New York.
Mr. Conover has always been accounted among his neighbors as a man of more than passing intelligence, being well read on matters that pertained to the welfare of the nation and the general affairs of the day. In his associations with his neighbors and acquaintances he bore himself as a good citizen, and to his wife and sons he was a devoted husband and father.
The funeral was held Friday last, at the home, Rev. H. H. Green officiating, and interment was made in Phelps cemetery.
