Another one of our old settlers passed away last Friday. Eve Jane Bowman was born near St. Cathernes, in Pelham Co., Canada West, on Nov. 23, 1830. She was married in 1848 to John A. Henry, and lived in Canada until the year 1854 when she and her husband and three small children emigrated to Winneshiek county, which has ever since been her home. About 20 years ago she united with the Methodist church at Burr Oak and although physical infirmities prevented her from attending church regularly she has remained a faithful member. She was ever ready to testify to the saving power of Christ, and many times during her last months expressed her willingness to be called there. Since the death of her husband on Dec. 12 1895. She has made her home with her daughter Mrs. Martha Perry, who gave her all the care that tender hands and a loving heart could suggest. She has been a constant sufferer since last December and death came as a merciful release on May 3 1912. Besides her daughter, Mrs. perry, she leaves a son, Wilson Henry of Hay Springs, Neb., five children having preceded her to the better land. She also leaves five grand children and three great grandchildren. Funeral was held at the M. E. church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Schepple officiating.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows her name as Jane Eva. Her gravestone in the Burr Oak Cemetery shows Jane E.
