The many friends of Peter Marcy were shocked to hear of his sudden death last week. He had no complaints of being sick in any way until the instant he dropped dead. He had been a resident of Bluffton between forty and fifty years. His wife died a few years ago. He leaves three sons and four daughters to mourn his loss. Mr. Marcy was a colored man and his wife a white lady.

Obituary:--Peter Marcy was born a slave in Atlanta, Georgia, about the year 1850, and died of heart failure at his home in Bluffton, April 16, 1912, at about the age of 62 years. In 1862 he ran away from his master and joined the Union army. At the close of the war he was brought to Burr Oak by Captain Moore of the 23rd Iowa and came to Bluffton a short time later to make his home with a Mr. Nickerson, who died within a short time. He then went to the home of Mr. Lyman Morse, where he lived for several years. In October, 1870, he was united in marriage with Sarah Stockdale, who died in the year of 1905. To this union seven children were born all whom survive him. The funeral services were held at the church here Saturday afternoon, Rev. Schepple officiating. Interment in the Bluffton cemetery.
Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born July 20, 1848 which varies from the above. It also shows his wife died in 1904 which does not agree with the above.
