Again one of our pioneer settlers has departed to where there are no returns. John Adam Kuhn passed away at his home two miles south of town April 16, 1912, death being due to old age. He was born at Sulzbach, Bavaria in 1832. About 1836 he came to America and first settled in Butler county, Pa. May, 1855, the deceased came to Winneshiek county. In 1861 he was united in marriage to Margareta Smith at the St. Clement’s church which was then a log building. The funeral took place at the St. Clement’s church Friday , April 19, Rev. Broz performing the obsequies. The requiem mass was solemnized by Misses Mary and Celia Soukup, Emma Mikesh and Ed. Herold. The pall bearers were Nick Meyer, Frank Kuhn, Peter Meyer, Lewis Meyer of Calmar, Joe Loesch and Geo. W. Kuhn. He leaves to mourn a wife and eight children, Mary, Mrs. John Sabelka; Catherine, Mrs. John Herold; Margaret Mrs. Fr. Schneeberger; Anna, Mrs. John Schneeberger; Miss Regina, George J., Joseph and John, all of whom live in Winneshiek county. Barbara, Mrs. Shaberle, died several years ago. Also three brothers, George of Sumner township, Philip of Spirit Lake and Jacob of Dubuque, who were also present at the funeral. The funeral was largely attended, all escorting him to his last resting place.
