TALENTED WINNESHIEKER DIES.
H. Daniel Webster, Once Frankville Youth, Passed way Suddenly in Texas.
Telegrams from Sioux Falls to the daily newspapers of last week Wednesday conveyed the information that H. Daniel Webster, who as a youth resided with his parents in Frankville township, died on the 18th inst. at Chapel Hill, Texas. Beyond the fact that his death was sudden no particulars are given.
The deceased was a con{sic} of Nelson M. M. Webster, born at Moneek in 1880. The family left Winneshiek county a number of years ago and located at Sioux Falls. Mr. Webster was a graduate of the high schools of that city. He developed a talent as a sculptor and moved to Connecticut, where he took up his residence and where his studio was located.
Mr. Webster was the sculptor who made the statue of General W. H. H. Beadle, the so called “Father of the educational system of South Dakota,” which several months ago was placed in the new capitol building at Pierre. At the time of his death he was working on a bust of the late Senator Kittredge, to be placed in the state capitol building.
He also designed a statue of a minute man which is located on Long Island, a piece of work for which he received $2500.
Beside his mother and other relatives he is survived by a wife and two children. In his death art has lost one of its most promising devotees as he was a man in the early thirties and had before him a brilliant future.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in Frankville on April 21, 1880 and died Mar. 19, 1912. It states he died in Westport, CT which differs from the above.
