THE SILENT REAPER.
On Wednesday of last week, the 13th, at his home in Pleasant township, occurred the death of John William Sampson, aged 58 years. Mr. Sampson enjoyed the distinction of being one of the first white children born in Decorah. Beside his wife he is survived by six sons. The funeral was held Saturday at the Big Canoe church, Rev. Seehuus officiating, and was largely attended by old friends and neighbors who gathered to pay the last tribute to one who they thoroughly respected.

Will Sampson passed away last week Thursday after a lingering illness from some blood disease. He had been ailing for years, and in spite of the best of medical are at hospitals and at home nothing could be done to stay the progress of the disease. He was about 56 years of age. We are without particulars for an obituary.
Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Oct. 25, 1853 and died Oct. 14, 1912, which does not agree with the above - his gravestone also shows Oct. 14, 1912. He is buried in the Big Canoe Lutheran Cemetery. His gravestone shows his name as William; however, Find a Grave shows William John.
