THE SILENT REAPER.
The remains of Mrs. W. V. Burdick were brought to Decorah Monday for burial in Phelps cemetery. For some time past Mrs. Burdick has made her home in St. Paul with her son, W. A. Burdick. Death came to her on Friday, the 15th, at Bethseda hospital, and was resultant from epilepsy. Mrs. Burdick’s maiden name was Rowena Davenport. She was born on December 18, 1830, at Brattleboro, Vt., and was married to Silas W. Parker and came to Decorah in 1855. Mr. Parker laid out what is known a Parker’s addition to Decorah and was the proprietor of our first meat market. He died early in the 60’s and in 1864 Mrs. Parker was married to W. V. Burdick, then one of the most prominent attorneys in Decorah and northeastern Iowa. Mrs. Burdick continued a resident in Decorah until 1873 and was again a resident here between 1897 and 1907. Rev. M. Willett officiated at the interment.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she is buried in Phelps Cemetery.
