William Robeson Van Vliet died at his home south of Stevensville Wednesday morning at the hour of 3:30 o’clock after an illness of many months’ duration, most of the time of which he was confined to his room. For years past Mr. Van Vliet had been bothered with asthma and of late other complications set in, which hastened his death.

Mr. Van Vliet was a native of Odelltown, St. Johns county, Quebec, born there November 5, 1834, and at the time of his death was in his 70th year.

His youth was spent in Canada in the province of Quebec, where he was married. In the fall of 1876 the Van Vliet family moved to Hesper, Iowa, where they resided until about eight of nine years ago when they came to Stevensville, and since that date they have made this vicinity their home.

Besides being survived by his wife Mr. Van Vliet leaves five children Edward Van Vliet, Alexander Van Vliet and Miss Ida Van Vliet who reside here and Albert, who is in Winneshiek county, Iowa, and Fred Van Vliet, who is in Spokane. All the children, with the exception of the son in Iowa, were present at the funeral.
