Rose Mary Gerleman, age 94, of Decorah, Iowa passed away on August 22, 2023, at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, IA.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah with Rev. Donald Hertges presiding. Burial will be in the St. Benedict Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church.

Rose Mary (Timp) Gerleman was born in Ossian, IA to Philip and Alexia (Kleve) Timp on May 1, 1929. She received her education from De Sales School in Ossian and graduated from high school in 1946. She then did domestic work in Chicago and Waterloo.

On June 12, 1950, she married Donald Gerleman at St. Francis Church in Ossian. Together they raised 10 children: Kathryn Ann, Michael, Linda, Julie, Myles, Mark, Bonnie, Carol, Stephen, and David. Rose Mary often helped with farm work, raised the children, and did lots of bread baking. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and dancing.

She worked for a while at the Aase Haugen Home and then was the cook at Sunflower Child Care Center for 25 years. Following her retirement, she did volunteer work. She was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, The Catholic Daughters, and St. Mary’s Circle of the Rosary Society.

Rose Mary is survived by her 10 children, Grandchildren, Great grandchildren, and 2 Sisters: Betty Mae Drew and Sister Selma OSF of Dubuque.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Gerald (Pat) Timp.
