KILLED BY THE CARS.
A Prominent Farmer is Run Down on His Way Home.
Ole Huff a prominent farmer of Calmar township, was suddenly killed on his way home from Calmar last Friday night. He had come to Calmar with about half a carload of cattle and had sold them, He remained there all day until late in the night, and started for home about 11 o’clock just before train No. 8 left for the east. About half a mile east of Calmar he was struck and killed, either by No. 8 or No. 61 west bound extra. Neither engineers of the train have any recollection of seeing the man or striking him. Mr. Huff was struck in the side, hur(r)ied back onto the front of the engine and then thrown off onto the side of the track. His hired man who came to Calmar to take care of the cattle started home about half an hour afterwards. When he arrived at the house he asked for Mr. Huff and was surprised to learn that he had not yet arrived home. Together with Mrs. Huff he started out to find the unfortunate man about half way to Calmar they heard groans and going to the spot found Mr. Huff unconscious. Help was called but he died within a few moments after being found. The deceased was one of the most prosperous farmers of Calmar township. He leaves a wife, two girls and a son, all verging on manhood and womanhood. Less than a week before he had purchased an automobile and was calculating to take life easy. His skull was broken, also several ribs.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows this was Ole Hoff. He was born Feb. 9, 1858 and died May 20, 1911. He is buried in Calmar Lutheran Cemetery
