THE SILENT REAPER.

On Sunday last at her home in Canoe township occurred the death of Mrs. Hattie May Smith, wife of Horace Smith after an illness of three weeks or more from a brain difficulty so obscure that it could not be successfully diagnosed. Mrs. Smith’s maiden name was Hattie May Brickner. She was born in Decorah February 1, 1868, and at the age of three moved with her parents to the farm where she died. She was married to Horace Smith on Dec. 31, 1890. For several years they lived in Bluffton township, later returning to the old farm. Beside her husband and mother she is survived by an adopted son, four sisters and four brothers, viz.” Mrs. L. V. McCraney of LaCrosse, Mrs. John Beucher of Ridgeway, Mrs. C. C. Marlow and Mrs. F. A. Ruth of Canoe, John Bricker of Hay Springs, Neb., E. G Brickner of St. Paul, S. E. Brickner of Calmar, and C. R. Brickner of Minneapolis. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the home, Rev. Lemen officiating, and interment was made in the Canoe cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was a woman of good deeds done in that quiet, thoughtful way that won warm friends, and she will be missed by a wide circle of acquaintances.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she is buried in the Russell Cemetery.
