OBITUARY.
H. S. E. RENKEN
At an early hour Sunday morning, January 1, after an illness of eighteen years, during the latter part of which he was a constant and great sufferer from Bright’s disease, H. S. E. Renken passed away.
Mr. Renken was a native of Germany, where he was born on March 7, 1851. His parents came to America when he was a year old, and six years later they settled in Decorah, where the deceased grew to manhood. Learning the bricklayer’s and plasterer’s trade was the stepping stone to a general contracting business in which he was engaged for many years until ill health compelled him to give up active labors. His operations extended largely throughout the western country and he was successful.
On April 23, 1877, he was united in marriage with Anna M. Niemeyer, who, with three children, survive hm. The children are Miss Matilda who is at home, Wil of Chicago and Fred of Winona. He is also survived by his mother and brothers Renke of Denver, Colo., Theodore of Los Angeles, and Ed. of Missoula, Mont.
The funeral was held at the home yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock being conducted by the Masons of which order Mr. Renken was a member. Prayer was offered by Rev. Wn. McVettie and the remains were placed in the vault at Phelps cemetery where they will remain until spring.
Mr. Renken was a good friend and neighbor and enjoyed the respect of many acquaintances.
