THE SILENT REAPER.
ABNER NUTTING.
The following notice of the death of Abner Nutting is taken from the La Crosse County Record. For many years Mr. Nutting and his family lived on their farm about four miles west of Hesper. They moved to that village and made their home there for a time just prior to their removal to Onalaska, Wis. Last year:
Albert Nutting aged 78 years died at his home in this city Monday, after a lingering illness. He had been an invalid for years but was able to be around town at times without aid. The funeral was held from the home in this city this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. H. C. Carter of Hesper, Iowa, and Rev. B. E. Stevens of this city officiating, and undertaker A. E. Smith in charge. The local M. E. church choir rendered several hymns. Interment was made in the Onalaska cemetery. The pall bearers were A. N. Moore, J. M. Willey, Byron Moore, Lester Willey, Frank Hossfeld and H. G. Willey, his nephews and grand nephews.
Abner Nutting was born in the year 1832 at Madison, Maine, and was the son of Abel and Clara Nutting of that place. He was married in 1864 at Madison, Wis., to Miss Mary Carr and to this union four children were born three sons, Willie, Abel and Samuel, and one daughter, Ella Melissa. He was engaged in farming until his health failed and was a man of integrity, a kind neighbor, loved and respected by all who knew him. He moved to this city in 1909 with his wife from Iowa, their former home.
Those who survive to mourn his death are his wife, Mrs. Mary E. Nutting of this city, one son, Samuel of this city, one granddaughter, Hazel Coy of Cleveland, Ohio, two sisters, Mrs. Frank McClellan of South Dakota, and Mrs. Annie Hossfeld of North Dakota. The sympathy of this community is with the family in their bereavement.
