A. P. Cornell died at his home Monday night and the funeral will be held at the house Thursday. A biography will be published next week.

Alphonso Palmer Cornell was born in Onondaga county, N.Y., Dec .5, 1832, and came to Winneshiek county, Iowa with his parents in 1854. He lived on the old homestead from that time until the day of his death, Aug.1, 1910. He was married Dec. 15, 1858, to Rasaltha Freeman and to this union were born twelve children, ten of whom survive their father. These are: W. A., of Lockwood, Mo.; Mrs. C. H. Cain of Milford, Iowa; Mrs. W. E. Mowers of Oldsbury, Canada; Anson P. of Oklahoma City, Okla.; Fred of Waterloo and Levi F., Welton E., Mrs. Henry J. Mayer, Mrs. Ward M. Allen and Daisy of Ossian. Two sons, C. B. and C. C., preceded their father to the eternal home. The funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Bloomfield Universalist church, Rev. Olmstead of Decorah officiating. Mr. Cornell was one of Winneshiek county’s pioneers. He was a man of sterling character and was interested in whatever he thought was for the good of his community. He was for a time president of the Silver Springs Creamery company and was always active in the political life of the county. His children, his widow and his neighbors can testify that the community has lost a loving father, a devoted husband and a good citizen. All of the sons and daughters attended the funeral except Mrs. Mower. The relatives from a distance who were present were Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Cain; W. A. Cornell, Anson Cornell and son Kermit, Fred Cornell, G. F. Freeman of McGregor; Dr. and Mrs. Horton and Fred Gallup of Fort Atkinson; and Mrs. Chas. Andrews of Burlington, Iowa.
