OBITUARY.
MRS. JACOB AMMER.
Mrs. Jacob Ammer passed away Monday evening last at about 8:30 o’clock at the family home on Day street, after an illness of several weeks due to the infirmities of old age.
Mrs. Ammer’s maiden name was Margaret Hiller. She was born on Dec. 17, 1829, in Dittengen, Wurtemburg, Germany, and came to America in 1852. She came to Decorah in 1855, the intervening years between her arrival in this country being spent in Pennsylvania and Illinois. She was married in Decorah in 1856 to Jacob Ammer. To them were born five children. One daughter died in infancy, the surviving children being Fred, who resides in Montana, John and Mary of Fargo and Margaret at home. Besides her husband and children she is survived by three brothers—C. F. Hiller of Decorah, Jacob Hiller of Montoursville, Pa., and George Hiller, residing in Germany.
Mrs. Ammer was a member of the German Lutheran church—a woman of homely Christian virtues whose devotion to her husband and children will be one of their happiest memories as long as life is given them.
The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the house, Rev. M. Willett officiating, and the remains were interred in Phelps cemetery.
