After many years of illness, during the past nine of which he was confined to his bed, Knud Throndsen, one of Decorah’s most respected Norwegian citizens, passed away last Friday. As long as the writer can remember Mr. Throndsen was afflicted with palsy, but whatever his sufferings may have been on that account he never made complaint.
Mr. Throndsen was born on Oct. 22, 1830, in Valders, Norway. Beside acquiring a common school education he attended Asker Seminary for two years and fitted himself for teaching. He served for a time as teacher in Balchen’s school for deaf mutes in Christiania. On coming to American in 18{?} he took up newspaper and literary work. Prior to his residence in Decorah he was connected in editorial capacity with “Emigranten,” published at Madison, Wis., and with Skandinaven in Chicago. He came to Decorah in 1866. Here he continued to follow literary work, publishing several books, and issuing a monthly publication. He also taught at different times for members of the faculty at Luther College.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon, Rev. I. B. Torrison officiating at the house and at the grave and Rev. Laur. Larsen at the church. Interment was made in the Norwegian cemetery.
