Orville Meyer

Funeral services for Orville V. Meyer were held Tuesday, Nov. 15, 1983 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Orville Victor William Meyer, son of Alvin D. and Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Kuhse) Meyer, was born Feb. 4, 1921 in Clayton County. He died Nov. 12, 1983 at his home in Postville.

He was baptized May 29, 1921 and confirmed April 14, 1935 by Rev. R. B. Garten at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He attended the Springfield and Oakhill Schools.

He was united in marriage with Ora Gene Oestmann June 12, 1947 by the Rev. Frederick R. Ludwig. To this union five children were born. They farmed in the Castalia area until 1980 when they moved to Postville.

Orville was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, serving on the Church Council, a director for the Farm Bureau and the Postville Cooperative Creamery and was a Dairyland Seed Dealer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Arthur, and a sister, Marie.

Surviving are his wife, Ora Gene; two sons, Kenneth and Keith, Castalia; three daughters, Mrs. David (Judy) Geerts, North Washington, Mrs. Richard (Kathryn) Menne, West Union, and Mrs. David (Beverly) Torkelson, Castalia; eleven grandchildren; a brother, Willard A. Meyer and a sister, Mrs. Vernon (Margaret) Kugel, Postville.
