MRS. J. C. ROLLINS.
Mrs. J. C. Rollins passed away at about three o’clock yesterday afternoon, at her home on Vernon street, after an illness of over four months from Bright’s disease and complications due to old age.
Mary F. Tripp was born on Dec. 1, 1833, in the state of Maine, and at the time of her death was 76 years and 29 days of age. She was married in 1848 at St. Albans, Maine, to James C. Rollins and two years later they came west in search of a home. This they first found in Rock county, Wis., where they resided until the winter of 1864, when Mr. Rollins came to Winneshiek county, accompanied by several of his sons. A week later the rest of the family followed and it was on Christmas day that they reached here. They at once took up their residence on the farm in Burr Oak township which continued to be their home until April, 1888, when they moved to Decorah.
Nine children were born to them but of these only four survive—Mrs. Olive I. Manning, Alvin and Frank E., all of this county, and Dr. Guy H. of Fredericksburg. Their sons Clayton E. and Alva Rollins and daughters Emma J. Miller, Nellie S. Rollins and Edna B. Phillips have passed away. Mr. Rollins died about a year ago.
Early in life Mrs. Rollins joined the Methodist church and during the intervening years she has been a consistent member, always in attendance upon its services whenever possible. In her home she was a faithful wife and loving mother, and to her friends she was ever loyal.
On August 25th last she became ill, and while at times she seemed to be improving during the past week she has failed more rapidly and her death had not been unexpected for several days.
The remains will be taken to Burr Oak to-morrow morning, leaving here at 9:30 o’clock, and the funeral service will be held at the Burr Oak M. E. church, immediately upon arrival, Rev. W. M. Lemen of the Decorah M. E. church officiating. Interment will be made in the Burr Oak cemetery.
Card of Thanks.
The family of Mrs. J. C. Rollins desire to extend their sincere thanks to friends and neighbors for kindnesses shown to their mother during her last illness.
