Mrs. E. E. Cooley Dead.
Word came by wire last Thursday afternoon of the death in Grand Forks, N. D., of Mrs. Jane Rhodes Cooley, widow of the late Judge E. E. Cooley. The remains were brought to Decorah on Friday, being accompanied by her son Charles M. Cooley, and were placed in the receiving vault at Phelps cemetery. Mrs. Cooley, at the time of her marriage on March 18th, 1856, was a native of Dubuque, but at once came to Decorah to reside and until fifteen years ago the family home was maintained here. Upon the death of her husband she made her home with her sons and at the time of her death was living with her son Roger W. Cooley. Old friends remember Mrs. Cooley as a woman of artistic and social attainment, drawing about her the warm friendship and admiration of many. In a quiet, unostentatious way she was a doer of deeds of charity that betokened the warm heart and true woman. At the time of her death she was eighty years of age.

Transcriber’s Note: Phelps Cemetery shows she was born July 29, 1833 and died Dec. 23, 1909.
