Wm. Fraser Dead.
Old residents of the northern part of the county will remember Wm. Fraser, a former citizen of Winneshiek county who went to South Dakota many years ago and by successful farming won a competence. A letter from his son, now residing at Letcher, brought the following notice of Mr. Fraser’s death which occurred recently:--
William Fraser, one of the most widely known and highly respected citizens of Aurora county, passed away at the home of his son, James, in Belford township last Monday night. The direct cause of Mrs.{sic} Fraser’s death was from an accident. In going from one room to another, as he sup{p}osed, a wrong door was opened and the unfortunate man plunged headlong down the cellar stairway, injuring his head and back, and lived but a few hours afterwards. Although eighty-five years of age Mr. Fraser was quite active and enjoyed good health for one of his advanced years.
Everybody knew “Dad” Fraser. He was a great lover of good horse flesh and for many years maintained a track on his farm. Not until he was over eighty years of age did he give up taking an active part in the annual fall races held here—during those times everybody was on “Dad’s” side, with the one hope of seeing his horse come in first. There is sadness in the Fraser neighborhood as well as in the household.
We are indebted to Rev. Hunsberger for the following obituary notice:
William Fraser was born in Leeds, Meganie county Province of Quebec, Canada, Sept. 22nd, 1824, where he grew to manhood. On January 10th, 1840, he was married to Abigail Eager of Leeds. To them were born ten children all of whom are now living except the oldest daughter, who with her mother were waiting to welcome him home. Mr. Fraser was brought up in the Presbyterian faith and although for many years he had not been a member of any church he has always been a deeply religious man and a Christian I the truest sense of the word. His last years have been full of trust and a happy waiting of an abundant entrance into that rest which is promised to all who love the Lord.

Transcriber's Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Plankinton, SD. His gravestone shows his date of death was Dec. 8, 1909
