Obituary.
On Saturday last at the home of her daughter Mrs. C. A. Painter, occurred the death of Mrs. Thomas Russell. The deceased was born May 3d, 1839, in Coles county, Ill., her maiden name being Elizabeth Hensley. When three years of age she came with her parents to Fayette county, thus establishing a residence that continued until but a few years ago and made her one of the pioneers of that county. In 1857 she was married to Thomas Russell. Three children were born to them—Mrs. Painter, C. A. Russell of Charles City and James Russell of Calmar. Early in life she was converted and joined the Disciple church, but upon coming to Decorah she joined the Methodist church. Until declining health compelled her to relinquish her activities she was always ready to do her part in all the affairs of her church and in her death her children cherish the memory of her unselfish devotion for their welfare. The funeral was held Sunday morning at the Methodist church, Rev. Wm. Lomen officiating, and the remains were interred in the Canoe cemetery.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows her birth year as 1840. It shows she died Nov. 27, 1909 and that she is buried in the Russell Cemetery.
