Burned to Death in California.
Word came to Decorah friends and relatives last week of the death on the 10th inst. In California of Albert Kellogg, only son of Dr. A. C .and Laura Gibbs Kellogg. From the story as told it seems that the young man was with a camping party 87 miles from San Francisco, where he made his home with his father. On the evening of Tuesday the 6th, he went to a town near by, where he found a dwelling being consumed by fire. People in the crowd said an old woman who lived in the house was in the flames and the boy impulsively rushed in to try and save her. He did not find her and had to fight his way out of the house, dropping to the ground unconscious when he reached the fresh air. His father was notified and with two doctors made the trip by automobile, reaching his son at 4:15 in the morning. Albert’s face was burned black and was so badly swollen that he was unable to see. He recognized his father and lingered until Saturday, the 10th when death relieved his sufferings. Albert was born in Decorah 20 years ago. Those who had seen him recently say he had developed into a manly young man and gave promise of a bright future.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in 1890 and died July 22, 1909. The date of death does not agree with the above. No details known as to where he is buried.
