Obituary
The following obituary from the Postville Review concerns the mother of Will Makepeace, who resides about a mile south of this city:--
Nancy Jane Pierce was born in Delaware county, Indiana, March 13, 1836, and died at her home in Postville, Iowa, Tuesday, July 6, 1909, aged 73 years, three months and 23 days, death resulting from blood impoverishment after an illness of eight weeks.
She was married Sept. 18, 1856, to Oliver A. Makepeace and came to Postville in the fall of 1869, settling on the farm three miles west of town which remained the family home until after the death of the husband in 1883, when she bought a place and moved to town. She was the mother of four children, three boys and one girl, namely, Mary (now Mrs. Ellison Orr), Charles, Will and Otis, all of whom except the last named are living and were present at the funeral, which was held Thursday afternoon from the late home conducted by Rev. Van Nice of Waukon. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
Mrs. Makepeace was a kindly Christian woman, a good neighbor and friend and many will mourn to learn of her demise.
