Died in South Dakota.
C. N. Goddard received intelligence last Monday that his eldest brother, names John, had died at his home in the village of Colton, near Sioux Falls, S. D. Deceased came west in pioneer times and located at or near Taopi on the line of the C., M. & St. P. Ry. When South Dakota was opened to settlement he went thither, took up land and was founder of a town which he named Taopi. He also engaged in business at Colton, and was fairly prosperous. As a sire he became the head if three generations of children, grand children and great grand children, there being no less than eight of the latter. Of his father’s family there are two—a sister and this brother—who have departed this life. The survivors also number two, viz:--C. N. Goddard and a brother who was formerly a merchant at Bancroft in Kossuth county, but now living in Des Moines. Deceased was in his 78th year.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born Oct. 16, 1830 and died June 13, 1909. He is buried in the Hartford Cemetery in Harford, SD.
