MRS. JOSEPH T. SHIPLEY
On Tuesday last the remains of Mrs. Joseph T. Shipley were brought to Decorah from Seattle, for interment in Phelps cemetery beside her husband who died several years ago. Mary Desmond was born in Boston and was in her 73d year at the time of her death. When a young girl her parents moved to Galena, Ill., later taking up their residence at Boscobel, Wis., where the deceased was married at the age of nineteen years to Joseph T. Shipley. There they remained until 1875 when they came to Decorah and make their home until 1899. In that year Mr. Shipley passed away and since that time Mrs. Shipley has made her home with her children. Of ten children born to them, eight are living. They are: Mrs. W. V. Yager of Calmar, Mrs. W. E. Smith, Miss Bessie and Thomas Shipley of Seattle, Mrs. F. A. Lloyd of Coronado, Cal., and J. R. and James Shipley of New York, and Mrs. Alex Findley of St. Paul. The remains were brought to Decorah by Miss Bessie Shipley who was met by her brother James from New York. Mrs. Shipley was a quiet, home-loving woman whose place in the affections of her children was held secure by her steadfast devotion to them.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she was born Nov. 26, 1838.
